Buying a 5 or 10 dollar bag of Pinon Nuts from the guy down the road is a tradition here in New Mexico when Pinon nuts are in season. That 5 dollar bag of roasted Pinon nuts costs up to $40 a pound. The smaller the bag the higher the per pound price. The 10 dollar bag is a better buy and the "standard" sandwich sized zip lock bag of Pinon nuts holds about 3/4 a pound maximum (12 ounces) and currently goes for $20.00 - or about $25.00 a pound... if is is 12.5 ounces, stuffed (stuffed to the point that it is difficult to close).

However that same bag costs about $30.00 a pound if it is filled - but not stuffed to the max.

10.9 ounces = $29.28 a pound and you had to drive to pick it up, in Albuquerque!

To be fair, remember, Pinons loose weight when they are roasted... So there is more pinon in a bag of roasted than raw.

The roaster takes the risk... any one who has cooked pinon nuts has burned pinon nuts - You are paying the roaster for the work.

Pinon nuts are a hand harvested wild crop.
Supply and demand work out the price.
Pinon nuts are do not come every year.

We slow oven roast, and the flavor is outstanding - so you dont have come to New Mexico for great authentic roasted Pinon nuts - or risk burning it buy roasting it yourself.. just try our pinon nuts once.. you'll see.

Our Pinon is cleaned and slow oven roasted in a process we think is second to none.
